Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) is the task allied to tagging an appropriate sense to a word with multiple senses known as ambiguous word. This task has been regarded as open and Artificial Intelligence complete problem in Natural Language Processing (NLP) due to its level of difficulty and necessity of world knowledge, reasoning capacity etc. In this paper, we have used Walker algorithm for disambiguation of Assamese word. This is a thesaurus based algorithm making use of category of each word defined in the thesaurus. For a language like Assamese, WSD is yet very topical approach. There is not any existing thesaurus with tagged category for Assamese language and hence we have used a modified version of Assamese wordnet for the purpose our experiment.
