THE EFFECT OF PHOSPHORIC ACID ON SEVERAL OF THE ENGINEERING PROPERTIES OF CLAY SOILS IS DISCUSSED. ACID CONCENTRATION, CURING TIME, MOISTURE-DENSITY RELATIONS, ETC., ARE PRESENTED. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY CONSIDERATION OF THE DIFFERENT SOURCES OF ACIDIC PHOSPHATE AND A REVIEW OF THE EFFECT OF SECONDARY ADDITIVES. THE MECHANISM OF PHOSPHORIC ACID STABILIZATION IS DISCUSSED FROM A WET- CHEMICAL VIEWPOINT. THE FINAL PART OF THE PAPER CONSIDERS SEVERAL VARIABLES THAT AFFECT FIELD APPLICATION OF THE METHOD, THAT IS, EXTENT OF MIXING, DEGREE OF COMPACTION AS PERCENT OF STANDARD, ETC. TWO SMALL TEST SECTIONS ARE DESCRIBED. THE ECONOMICS OF PHOSPHORIC ACID STABILIZATION ARE REVIEWED. /AUTHOR/
