In this paper, micro pumped storage (PS) is used for energy storage system (ESS) for the islands with different altitude, and demand-side is treat as a kind of possible power supply which can actively participate in the planning and operation in microgrid. A capacity configuration optimization model is proposed with the consideration of demand response (DR) in island microgrid, and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used to minimize system lifecycle cost. The results show that the investment is reduced significantly by considering demand response and using PS for ESS. Besides, sensitivity analyses of the impact of power consumption of controllable appliance and water head of PS on island microgrid are included in this paper.
