Abstract We introduce the notion of a $C^{*}$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msup> <mml:mi>C</mml:mi> <mml:mo>∗</mml:mo> </mml:msup> </mml:math> -algebra-valued b -metric space. We generalize the Banach contraction principle in this new setting. As an application of our result, we establish an existence result for an integral equation in a $C^{*}$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msup> <mml:mi>C</mml:mi> <mml:mo>∗</mml:mo> </mml:msup> </mml:math> -algebra-valued b -metric space.
