This chapter outlines the general philosophy of HEC‑RAS and provides an overview of its hydraulic modeling capabilities. The manual documents the hydraulic capabilities of HEC‑RAS’s steady‑flow module and indicates forthcoming documentation for unsteady flow and sediment transport. HEC‑RAS currently supports one‑dimensional steady‑flow water‑surface calculations and is designed to accommodate future unsteady flow and sediment transport analyses. Abstract : Welcome to the Hydrologic Engineering Center's River Analysis System (HEC-RAS). This software allows you to perform one-dimensional steady flow, unsteady flow, and sediment transport calculations. The current version of HEC-RAS only supports one-dimensional, steady flow, water surface profile calculations. This manual specifically documents the hydraulic capabilities of the Steady flow portion of HEC-RAS. Documentation for unsteady flow and sediment transport calculations will be made available as these features are added to the HEC-RAS. This chapter discusses the general philosophy of HEC-RAS and gives you a brief overview of the hydraulic capabilities of the modeling system. Documentation for HEC-RAS is discussed, as well as an overview of this manual.
