Abstract

The results of osteotomy of the proximal phalanx at its base, with removal of a medially based wedge of bone in thirty-two patients followed for at least three years are reported. There was minor recurrence of deformity in only five feet and only one needed reoperation. Despite the curve of the ray roentgenographically, the cosmetic and functional results were excellent and the alignment by roentgenogram tended to improve during the first postoperative year.
