Emergency bowel surgery in the elderly.

Abstract

Emergency bowel operations have poor outcome in the elderly. Nature and extent of disease, presence of coexisting cardiopulmonary disease, late admission and presence of peritonitis significantly affect management and outcome of elderly patients with bowel emergencies.
