Abstract

Abstract The present study reviews the events bearing upon bryozoan history during the Late Devonian. The principal event was the Frasnian/Famennian crisis, known among numerous organisms, benthic as well as pelagic. Examination of bryozoan distribution in Euramerica suggests that the extinction happened before the end of the Frasnian and that it was mainly dependent on modifications occurring within the environment necessary to the development of this fauna. Survival of bryozoans is documented in regions where sedimentation remained continuous (southern central Asia) or where Famennian onlap was exceptional (western United States).
