This paper analyzes the dramatic use of Oedipus' curse in Oedipus at Colonus to make Oedipus into a hero and Athenian. Oedipus' change in status from refugee to hero is produced by his gradual comprehension and ultimate use of his power to curse his sons. The unfolding of the curse is also used as a vehicle for the reiteration and re-enactment of the causes for Oedipus' hostility towards Thebes.
