Abstract In an attempt to complete the standardization of the "quantitative" method for the determination of urobilinogen in urine, recoveries of added urobilin varied erratically between 50 and 80%. Experiments to demonstrate the cause of the low recoveries suggest that urobilin is altered in the reduction procedure by the presence of urine.
