Natural and man made disasters have the direct and indirect impact on the health of the population, resulting in physical trauma, acute disease and emotional trauma along with increase in the morbidity and mortality associated with chronic diseases. A public health sector, which conducts routine surveillance, good immunisation coverage, maintains adequate environmental control is recommended to withstand the increased need following a disaster, while also expecting the health system to be prepared to resist the disaster.
