In mice, whose infections with Schistosoma mansoni were terminated by treatment with the nitrovinylfuran derivative, trans-5-amino-3-[2-(5-nitro-2-furyl)-vinyl]l,2,4-oxadiazole (SQ 18,506), the hepatic injury due to eggs of these parasites was almost completely reversed. The sequence of histologic events leading to healing of these schistosomal lesions are divided into six morphologically distinct stages and the characteristic features of each are described and illustrated.
