Abstract

This paper describes the development of a mortgage bubble in the last dozen years. The behavior of the Government Sponsored Enterprises (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) and the private-label securitization of "junk" loans are emphasized. A summary includes some thoughts on moving forward.
