Thirty-two tooth-based taxa of fishes were recorded from the Kienberg-vineyard section (north western part of the Vienna Basin): fifteen taxa of sharks, seven of rays and ten of teleosts. The sec tion provides the richest and most diverse tooth association of the Late Langhian (uppermost Lower Badenian and the Middle Badenian) for the Vienna Basin and, together with Korytnica, for the whole Central Paratethys. The actualistic analysis of the tooth-based taxa indicates marine waters in a subtropical climate, with depths of no more than 60 m. A high proportion of reef-associated taxa are also present. The occurrence of Cetorhinus maximus in the upper part of the section may be indicative of a slight cooling. These results all concur with those obtained from the otoliths.
