Genetic diversity among 35 Vigna genotypes was assessed using SSR, ISSR and RAPD markers. SSR (21), ISSR (17) and RAPD (25) markers produced a total of 319 bands, of which 284 exhibited polymorphism. Higher marker indices were obtained for ISSR markers, which also proved to be the most efficient marker system in terms of average heterozygosity values. All the marker systems characterized the genotypes effectively. The similarity coefficients were significant for all the three marker systems, but were lower for SSR compared to ISSR and RAPD markers. The pooled allelic diversity data grouped 35 genotypes into 4 major clusters with most of the genotypes reflecting relationship according to the species distribution. The DNA based markers used in the present study were efficient in discriminating the studied Vigna species.
