Root resorption associated with orthodontic force in IL-1Beta knockout mouse.

Abstract

Interleukin-1, the term which encompasses three differentpolypeptides: IL-1·, IL-1‚ and IL-1ra, has been shown to bea potent stimulus for bone resorption. The presence of ele-vated levels of IL-1‚ in the periodontal tissue and gingivalcrevicular fluids of patients undergoing orthodontic toothmovement implicate a role of this cytokine in the orthodon-tically induced tooth movement
