Abstract

EVERAL examples of linkage in Chlamydomonas reinhardi have been re-s ported (EVERSOLE 1956; EBERSOLD 1956; EBERSOLD and LEVINE 1959). From studies using linked loci it has been shown that crossing-over occurs at the fourstrand stage and that chiasma interference is positive at least in the one chromosome arm where data are conclusive (EBERSOLD and LEVINE 1959). No information has been available, however, regarding the number of linkage groups. The purpose of the present work has been to determine the number of linkage groups and to construct genetic maps to be used as a basis for further genetic investigations.
