Abstract

Coagulation and precipitation with ferric salts is a commonly used treatment method for removal of arsenic from drinking water. But the sludge generated during this process has a substantial concentration of arsenic (5.29 mg/g of As present in the sun-dried sludge) and requires further treatment before its disposal into the environment. For the safe disposal of arsenic-bearing sludges, a solidification/stabilization (S/S) technique has been investigated in the present study using binding materials such as cement, lime and fly ash at various proportions.
