The challenging sustainability commitments of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games reflect a comprehensive approach to minimising the impact of the games on the environment while promoting social and economic improvement. The Olympic Delivery Authority's sustainable development strategy reflects industry best practice as well as national and regional policy. This paper considers the Olympic Delivery Authority's sustainability strategy, the challenges in developing and implementing it across the project, the resulting achievements – with particular focus on some of the projects – and the lessons which have been learned.
