Abstract

The H atom analogue muonium (Mu) has been used to explore the free radical reactivity of two novel chlorosilylenes. Spectroscopic and computational investigations show that Mu adds to the silicon in the NHC-stabilised dichlorosilylene. In contrast, Mu reacts at the carbon of a siladiazirene ring in the monochlorosilylene. Muon and Cl hyperfine constants are consistent with flipping of the SiCl bond from one side of the ring to the other.
