Comparative performance of light trap types, lunar influence and sandfly abundance in Baringo district, Kenya.

Abstract

. Results indicated thatone of the updraft traps collected relatively moresandflies and both updraft traps were more consis-tent in terms of sandflies caught than other traps.The more improved blacklight (UV) updraft anddowndraft light traps are thought to attract moresandflies than white incandescent light but they havenot been widely tested on Kenyan sandfly species.The current paper presents data on sandfly abundancein Marigat in three different locations and two lunarphases as well as relative performance of the CDCminiature light trap, updraft blacklight and downdraftblacklight traps.The study was conducted in Marigat area that is lo-cated within Marigat administrative division ofBaringo district, Rift valley province, Kenya.
