Abstract

A one equation eddy viscosity turbulence model is compared to two algebraic models. The models are tested on two challenging configurations: the subsonic A-airfoil close to stall and the transonic flow over Aerospatiale's full aircraft configuration (using a 3.5 million nodes grid). The present study was performed in order to discuss the interest of using an eddy viscosity transport equation turbulence model in an industrial code. This paper shows that, for a reasonable CPU time increase, this class of models offers simpler implementation (for complex configurations and parallelization), still robust behavior, and gives better results in average.
