Abstract

Cyclic diazenium salts 2 are formed quantitatively upon treatment of compounds 1, containing the NNCNO structural unit, with strong protonic acids. Compounds 2, RMe, ArylPh, are characterized, in particular, by the very long CN bonds and the small angle between the five-membered ring and the phenyl group (only 17°).
