The Role of Bactericidal/Permeability-Increasing Protein in Men with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Abstract

BPI mutation (PstI in intron 5) and a decreased plasma BPI level were significant risk factors in susceptibility to COPD. These results demonstrate that BPI genetic mutation and impaired BPI production or release may result in airflow obstruction in smokers.
