Abstract

The problem of reflection and transmission of a plane periodic wave incident on the loosely bonded interface between an elastic solid and a liquid-filled porous solid is discussed with the assumption that the interface behaves like a dislocation which preserves the continuity of stress allowing a finite amount of slip. It is further assumed that the normal displacement is continuous and the shearing stress is proportional to the velocity of slip. Energy ratios are computed numerically for a particular model and are plotted for different degrees of bonding. The results for a welded contact and a smooth interface are obtained as particular cases. It is found that there is a dissipation of energy at a loosely bonded interface except for normal and grazing angles of incidence.
