Four hundred and nineteen lateral cephalometric radiographs were reviewed to determine the prevalence and extent of ponticles of the posterior arch of the cervical vertebra. All the radiographs were from the dental clinic files. About two-thirds of the patients had only minor bridging while in 14% it was complete or near-complete bridging. There is an increasing trend with age of partial and complete bridging.
