Abstract

Reverse engineering of data has been performed in one form or another for over twenty-five years (1976-2001 approx.). The author describe the lessons learned in data reverse engineering (DRE) as contributed in a survey of data reverse engineers. Interesting is the fact that some of the lessons learned tell us how we are doing in the process of initial database design as well as how difficult the DRE process really is. It is hoped that from these lessons learned, we can assist in the suggestion of the next steps that are needed in the DRE area and promote discussion among the DRE community.
