This paper presents a simple and efficient approach to implement the periodic boundary conditions (PBC) in the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The scattering property of periodic structures is computed in the k x -frequency plane through several rounds of FDTD simulations, each with a constant k x value. The accuracy of the method is demonstrated through a dipole frequency selective surface (FSS) example
