Abstract

In brief Although most of the preparticipation examination is similar for male and female patients, physicians can focus certain aspects of the exam to address female athletes' specific concerns. Menstrual dysfunction and disordered eating are two major potential problems, but other disorders, such as patellofemoral pain, are also more common in women and girls than in men and boys.
