The paper presents a hybrid finite element–boundary element formulation which has been applied to the analysis of a four conductor device under AC supply, also considering the presence of shields. The system impedance matrix and the magnetic field predicted by the model have been compared with the experimental outcomes. The model predictions are found to be in very good agreement with measurements. Finally, it is shown that the use of only the finite element method is inadequate for a correct estimation of the external magnetic field.
