Abstract

A C3-symmetric tris(bisurea) ligand L assembles with PO43− ions to form the tetrahedral cage [(PO4)4L4]12−. The PO43− ions form the four vertices and each forms 12 NH⋅⋅⋅O hydrogen bonds with 6 urea groups. A unique trinuclear pinwheel-like helical complex [(SO4)3L2]6− is formed from L and SO42− ions (see picture).
