Abstract

In future research, it would be valuable to study Japanese labor-market institutions with a view to evaluating the theories of persistent unemployment put forward here There are a number of similarities between Japanese and European institutions there may however be important differences as well, particularly in the attitude of Japanese unions toward outsiders (Blanchard and Summers [1986], p 46)
