Abstract

The present work deals with the utilization of geological, Landsat TM and aeromagnetic data for the identification of sulphide mineralized zones at Wadi Allaqi area. The study area is underlain by Neoproterozoic island arc metavolcanic rocks and their equivalent gabbro-diorite rocks and intruded by granodiorites. The interpretation of aeromagnetic map correlated with the geological map and Landsat TM image of the study area. This correlation showed three magnetic anomalies related to massive sulphide bodies. The geochemical analysis for some representative samples from the alteration zones capping these sulphide bodies indicate that copper content reaches up to 14.3% and gold reaches up to 3.2 g/t. This study indicates that Wadi Um Rilan El Atshan massive sulphide deposits is the most promising area and need more detailed geological and geophysical studies.
