Abstract

Nationalism refers to the acknowledgment of a shared identity among a part of humankind because of physical or cultural characteristics. Cosmopolitanism [tianxia zhuyi], refers to the common identity of the entire human race. From the perspective of judging world affairs as playing a game of chess, nationalism and cosmopolitanism are two different cultural strategies; from the perspective of economics, however, the two lead to quite different economic results.
