Abstract

This article presents a numerical simulation of turbulent reacting flow in a swirl combustor. A new algebraic Reynolds stress model (ASM) is applied to the simulation. To explore the effects of turbulent fluctuation on the time-averaged reaction rate, the explicit algebraic expressions for the second-order-moments of concentration fluctuation are derived. They are utilized for the closure of the time-averaged reaction rate. The calculated results are compared with the measured test data and those predicted by the k − ϵ model. Agreement is achieved between the prediction and the measurement in terms of the gas velocity, temperature, species concentrations, and turbulent fluctuating velocity. The predicted results by the new ASM are improved over those obtained by the k − ϵ model.
