During the some seven years which have elapsed since the \nfirst observation of artificially produced π-mesons \nat Berkeley, we have seen a very rapid development of \nelementary particle physics. There are now at least a dozen \naccelerators capable of producing π-mesons, including \nseveral which have created or are expected to create heavier \nparticles. As a result of the work done with these machines, \nit is perhaps fair to say that we have at least a qualitative knowledge of the elementary interactions of mesons with nucleons at low energies.
