Abstract Sequential interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs), based on polyurethane and polybenzoxazine, were synthesized. Fourier Transform infrared spectrometry was employed to monitor the formation kinetics, which indicated that only physical bonding existed in the resulting IPNs. Morphological investigations revealed a lightly phase separation behaviour in all of the IPNs studied. © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry
