Abstract

Switched reluctance motors have the advantages of a high torque/weight ratio, as the large reluctance torque is made by the salient poles of both stator and rotor, and has high reliability. On the other hand, switched reluctance motors have the disadvantage of a large ripple torque, which is also made by the salient poles. Application to industrial fields have therefore been limited to special cases. For the optimum design of switched reluctance motors, this paper presents the methods and results of calculations carried out using dynamic finite element analysis. The methods are pole shape optimization, compensated current, etc. In the case of the calculated model, the motor ripple torque can be reduced to almost zero.
