The determination of an absolute scale for X-ray intensities involves the experimental evaluation of a number of constraints in the intensity equation whose values are not normally required. The absolute intensities so obtained will not be useful, in the present context, unless the overall accuracy can be maintained at about 1% or better. Some of the difficulties which can occur in making the measurements to the necessary accuracy are discussed.
