Subclinical atherosclerosis and risk of atrial fibrillation: the rotterdam study.

Abstract

Atherosclerosis in participants without manifest atherosclerotic disease is an independent risk factor for atrial fibrillation. These results suggest that aggressive treatment of asymptomatic atherosclerosis may help to prevent atrial fibrillation.
