Abstract Direct examination of different polymerization catalysts with an electron scanning microscope is made possible by modification of the inlet port. This represents the first time that polymerization catalysts are thus directly observed at high magnification. The procedure differs from the more tedious and restricted examinations usually performed with electron transmission microscopes. Distinct differences between various catalysts are observed depending on their mode of preparation. These differences account for diverse physical properties of polymers produced with these catalysts.
