Summary This paper presents a report of a patient with the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone associated with an oat cell carcinoma of the lung. Antidiuretic activity was found on bioassay of plasma and tumor extracts. The active material could be extracted from the tumor by procedures known to isolate the native human peptide, arginine vasopressin. The material passed through a Sephadex G-25 column with a V e /V o ratio identical to that of vasopressin; on counter-current distribution, the material possessed a partition coefficient identical to that of purified arginine vasopressin.
