Abstract

Abstract The effect of 3d transitional impurities on the 63Cu solvent Knight shift in dilute liquid copper based alloys is reported. Details are also given of the paramagnetic susceptibility and solvent N.M.R. line width associated with the transitional solutes. When analysed in terms of a theory of the conduction electron redistribution near impurities the data indicate an impurity d band width of 1 to 2 ev with the spin sub-bands probably overlapping slightly. The number of d electrons per impurity is also deduced.
