Patients with acromegaly often show high values for glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and renal plasma flow (RPF) in relation to their body surface area (Luft & Sjögren, 1950, Heller et al., 1954). The present authors have reported changes in the water compartments of the body in acromegaly (Ikkos et al., 1954, 1956). Because of the intimate relationship between the renal function and body water (see Wolf, 1950, Smith, 1951), an investigation was carried out to examine the relation of GFR and RPF to body surface area and body water compartments in acromegalic patients as compared to normal subjects.
