The effectiveness of injectable chlorpromazine was compared with the effectiveness of injectable haloperidol with highly agitated, acute psychotic patients and chronic patients with acute exacerbations. While both groups improved, haloperidol effected a significantly greater improvement in patients 40 years of age or older than did chlorpromazine. This result is consistent with those reported in other studies.
