Abstract

A method of systematically treating a variety of laminar boundary layers with surface reaction is presented. With the assumption of simplified transport properties, the solution for the surface concentration in a reaction of any order and with any distribution of surface catalyticity is shown to be given by an integral equation which is amenable to numerical treatment by iteration techniques. The nonlinear boundary condition is shown to be readily handled by the iterative procedure. Certain special cases are discussed. In addition, it is shown how the first-order effects of deviations from simplified transport properties can be readily computed again in terms of integral equations. In the concluding section several illustrative applications of the analysis are presented.
