Metameric correction using parameric decomposition

Abstract

Abstract The theory underlying parameric decomposition using a Cohen‐Kappauf algorithm is explained. The decomposition is utilized to correct parameric color differences to metameric differences in order that indices of metamerism may be calculated from conventional formulae. The implications of the decomposition on the definitions of metamerism and of paramerism are discussed, and a physical realization of the fundamental stimulus is offered.
