Up-regulation of glandular iNOS expression can increase cholinergically evoked salivary secretion and appears to offset any secretory hypofunction linked with glandular inflammation. It seems unlikely that increased glandular levels of NO are responsible for the secretory hypofunction that accompanies SS.
