Abstract

This fundamental work aims at obtaining a new topology of Dynamic Compact Thermal Models (DCTM), which is capable of capturing all problem physics. It solves problems encountered by the widely used thermal impedance model, which is only a special case of the proposed new topology. The latter starts from governing partial differential equations of transient conduction heat transfer. It uses analytical procedures based on the Green's function to obtain the required DCTM topology, which is thus the most general one. This work generalizes an already presented approach for static problems based on the flexible profile technology to obtain the most general topology of static compact models. Some simple examples are treated to show that the widely used DCTM based on the thermal impedance concept fails to capture some aspects of transient problems, while the approach proposed here correctly considers them.
