Abstract The Schrödinger equation was solved for the valence and conduction bands of rubidium chloride and the face‐centered cubic alkali bromides by the orthogonalized‐plane‐wave method. Results are presented for several points of high symmetry in the first Brillouin zone, and the results are compared with experiment.
